About The Author

Ezinne Ngozi Obodefuna was born in Port Harcourt, Nigeria, and her early life was split between the city's lively environment and the traditional foundations of her ancestral hometown, Obosi. Her childhood, before the war's disruptive effects, was characterised by a profound engagement with family, community, and literature. She was a keen reader, often engrossed in substantial books, internalising stories and contemplating the lives of characters long after finishing a volume.
For over four decades, she maintained a dedicated career as a registered nurse, advancing to the role of clinical nurse specialist in spinal cord injuries. Now retired, she applies the same meticulous attention, empathy, and fortitude to her literary work.
This novel, a project envisioned over fifty years ago and written over the past five, is directly informed by her personal experience of the Biafran War. The process of documenting these memories has been deeply restorative. Recognising that war leaves fragmented impressions of fear, loss, hunger, and courage, writing served as a mechanism for unifying these experiences into a coherent whole. Her intention is that this book might offer healing to those who still quietly bear the war’s impact, particularly those who carry unresolved grief.
Through her narrative, she offers readers an immersive, vivid portrayal of seemingly ordinary individuals navigating extraordinary historical circumstances, underscoring the universal truth that no one is truly ordinary. She posits that crisis reveals the essential character and inner resilience of a person. Her hope is for readers to take away the understanding that truth, love, and legacy persist, even through history's most challenging periods.
Currently, she divides her time between Obosi and Birmingham, UK. She finds fulfilment in her family—both immediate and extended—and in her charitable commitments, guided by the Igbo proverb: Onye kwe, Chi ya ekwe (when one agrees, their destiny also agrees).
She identifies her personal qualities as being loving, strong, resilient, deeply perceptive of others, and an adventurous world traveller.
